President Obama's administration has been blamed for reckless spending that has put America into its debt hole.
But in reality, much of that spending emanates from policies of President Bush, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
They argue that Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Bush tax cuts (along with the economic downturn) are what is driving the U.S. deficit, not stimulus spending.
The CBPP focuses on lower to middle income issues and may be directly involved with the Democratic Party.

U.S. NATIONAL DEBT:
DEBT

For those of us who are suddenly concerned with the Federal Budget, taxes, salaries, job creation, & general economic well-being... in the aftermath of one of the biggest transfers of wealth from us taxpayers to the financial wizards who engineered this meltdown... this page and its charts are presented to graphically show the historical facts about what "Trickle-Down" (Voodoo) Economics have done for The National Debt, Worker's Wages & Job Creation.

Read an amazing story of how the Republicans helped engineer the meltdown!!! »»

The 2010 Budget includes about 1 Trillion to just pay interest on the 7.7 Trillion Republican Deficits

• U.S. Debt is: $30,000 per American, so using the totals from the chart above, the recent Republicans ran up 7.7 Trillion, and everyone else throughout history, or call it the Democrats plus pre-Reagan Republicans: 1.8 Trillion. That's a 76% to 24% ratio, so the above mentioned $30,000 per American boils down to: $22,800 for the Red Ink Party, & $7,200 for the Democrats.

• Obama probably will have to run up even more debt to pay for the recent Wars, Economic Meltdown and Bush Tax Breaks For The Wealthy, and remember, a big part of the current budget is the amazing $1 Trillion in interest on that $7.7Trillion brought to you by Reagan-Bush1&2

• Where the curve above takes a sharp turn upwards: Reagan's Huge Tax Cuts of 1981 lowered the most wealthy American's taxes. Income tax rates of the top personal tax bracket dropped from 70% to 28%!!! That combined with spending on every weapon ever proposed, including "Star Wars" systems, system more than DOUBLED THE NATIONAL DEBT. At the time, they were reported occasionally to be deliberately trying to blow up the budget so they could get rid of Social Security and other social programs, like Medicare, Welfare and anything else that helped with the social "Safety Net". Meanwhile, his economic war on the middle class caused wages to fall (See Chart below).

• The debt actually dropped during the Carter and 2nd Clinton Admin. Wages gained. Don't forget Clinton's budget was passed without a single Republican vote, and it brought on their angry predictions that it would ruin the economy!! Instead, it was the longest growth period without a recession in the country's history and the most impressive job and wage increase in recent times.

• Bush2 increased the National Debt by almost as much as Reagan with similar "Reaganomics". Wages fell, & the job creation was negative, & the huge meltdown resulted from de-regulating the Markets, that with the help of democrats even!! Finally, 12 years later, the Republican prediction about the economy being ruined by Clinton came true!!! Republicans, since Reagan, have had the strategy to blow up the deficits, with tax cuts and military spending, and then when out of power, focus on complaining about the deficits and blaming the Democrats, and that gets them a lot of votes from those citizens with short term memories!!

• Recall a few years ago, during congressional discussions about the huge amount the Iraq War was starting to cost, Republican leaders were quoted saying, "Deficits are no longer relevant". This is a strategy that works, and with the new Supreme Court Ruling that grants CORPORATIONS TO NOW HAVE UNLIMITED FUNDING OF POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS, which will radically unbalance the airtime of television advertisements, we expect to see huge Republican gains in the mid term election, and won't be at all surprised if Obama is a one-term President, followed by another reckless Republican administration, eager to take us down the road to destruction, like the last one was.

• Recent disclosures from the U. K. reveal the Trillion-Dollar Iraq War Plans were finalized between Bush, Cheney & Blair in Mid 2001, BEFORE 911 Also, remember, Cabinet Member Paul O'Neil, who resigned early, said the Iraq War was planned from very start after Bush took office!! He also was against the tax breaks, saying they would blow up the National Debt. His first-hand accounts are in a very critical book called: The Price of Loyalty: George W. Bush, the White House, and the Education of Paul O'Neill 2004. From Wikipedia: it described the Bush administration during O'Neill's tenure. Written by former Wall Street Journal reporter and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind, the book says Bush's economic policies were irresponsible, Bush was unquestioning and uncurious, and the war in Iraq was planned from the first National Security Council meeting, soon after the administration took office, even though Bush had promised not to engage in nation building during his campaign. This shows the effect of "Trickle Down" Economics on Wages starting in 1981

RATIO OF DEBT TO GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT
Debt
This Chart shows data thru Feb. 2009, so it missed the giant Bush Financial System Bailout and
subsequent bailouts to save the Financial System. But it is interesting to see the ratio of Debt to
GDP over the seven decades, especially the 120% reached in the 40's to fund WWII and bring
the country out of the "Great Depression".

WITH ALL THAT IN MIND, AND MID-TERM ELECTIONS SOON... PLUS
THE SUPREME COURT UNLIMITED CORPORATE ELECTION FINANCE DECISION...
